Upgrading a vCenter Server Appliance


The Upgrade tab is used when you have deployed a new version of the appliance and you want to migrate the settings to the new appliance. The upgrade is not in-place you will be deploying a new vCSA appliance and will migrate the settings from the old appliance to the newly deployed one.

How to do it...

The following procedure will guide you through the steps required to upgrade a vCenter Server Appliance:

  1. Deploy and power on the new appliance and accept the EULA at the web interface.

  2. Navigate to the Upgrade tab of the new appliance and under the Prepare subtab select the appliance role as Destination.

  3. Navigate to the Upgrade tab of the old appliance and under the Prepare subtab select the appliance role as Source.

  4. Navigate to the Establish Trust subtab on the new appliance and copy the local appliance key.

  5. Navigate to the Establish Trust subtab on the old appliance and paste the local key from the new appliance into the Remote Appliance Key field and click on...
