Creating a virtual machine


A virtual machine can be created by either using the vSphere Web Client interface or by using the vSphere Client interface connected directly to the ESXi server. In this recipe we will learn how to create virtual machine by using the vSphere Web Client interface.

How to do it...

To create a virtual machine, we will use the New Virtual Machine wizard. There are many GUI locations from where the wizard can be started. However, in this recipe we will use the virtual machine inventory as a starting place.

The following procedure explains how to create a virtual machine by using the vSphere Web Client:

  1. Connect to the vCenter Server as an Administrator by using the vSphere Web Client.

  2. Navigate to the VMs and Templates view from the inventory Home.

  3. Navigate to and right-click on the DataCenter, and then click on the New Virtual Machine… menu item to bring-up the New Virtual Machine wizard.
