Setting up the DPM self service recovery for SQL


This recipe will cover how to configure and enable the end users to be able to restore SQL databases to an alternate location, using DPM Self Service Recovery.

Getting ready

The ability to restore your own databases as a SQL administrator is always an important task; this also applies to the fact that the restore scenarios are always performed via the same procedure by using a supported and easy-to-manage solution from System Center Data Protection Manager.

The user who is enabled to restore databases via the self-service feature should never be able to restore the databases to their original location, as this task is something that should be performed under controlled circumstances by the DPM administrator with the cooperation of the SQL database administrators.

Note

You can't use the self-service recovery feature on a client side if you have the DPM agent installed.
