I find the most straightforward way to install Susy is to use Bower. Bower is also a package manager, however, while npm mostly manages JavaScript packages and Node-based projects, Bower manages non-JavaScript packages and libraries (including many JavaScript libraries). These happen to include some Sass libraries such as Susy. If you are unsure if you have Bower installed, you can run the following command:
bower -v
Run this from the command line. If you see a version number you're good to go. If not, simply run the following:
npm install bower -g
This installs Bower globally so you can use it in all your NPM projects without needing to install it as a dependency of that project.
Once you have Bower installed, you'll need to create a bower.json file to manage the projects bower components. To do so you can run this command:
bower init
You can simply accept all the defaults for now. Your bower.json file should look similar to the following:
