Abstraction is the ability to derive the correct general meaning from a particular word or symbol. It is a very basic intellectual task. However, instructions can combine words, symbols, and images. We can work a bit harder to create exercises that offer visually rich instructions to improve cognitive development in Moodle. This way, we can motivate children with minor abstraction and/or sequencing disabilities.
In this chapter, Alice goes to the zoo. We will learn how to create rich activities related to her journey. By following the exercises in this chapter we shall:
Learn how to save portions of the screen as new pictures to use in new activities
Make a gap fill activity changing pictures to words
Prepare visually rich instructions
Draw a scene that has to be painted using different colors
Prepare instructions using visual patterns
Create a visual yes/no multiple choice
Use images and colors to evaluate sequencing and/or abstraction...
