Summary

In this chapter, we have explored some of the more arcane aspects of the OpenCms architecture, and have looked at some of the key methods for extending the base functionality of OpenCms. We looked at creating custom document formats with resource types and encapsulating more complex data formats with content definitions. We looked at the VFS in detail, examining its design and discovering how to access files in the VFS. Finally, we took a brief glance at the OpenCms Java class hierarchy. In the next chapter, we will apply this knowledge as we create a full-blown module.
