Pre-Oracle 11g R2, DBCA (a graphical interface tool) was one of the most convenient ways to manage most of the ASM tasks. But as of Oracle 11g R2, the DBCA no longer supports ASM management. Instead, a new graphical interface tool Automatic Storage Management Configuration (ASMCA) has been introduced to manage the ASM operations exclusively. ASMCA simplifies ASM instance creation and configuration, ASM disk group management, Dynamic Volume Manager (ADVM), and ASM Cluster File Systems (ACFS) operations. Moreover, ASMCMD, a command-line utility which is a non-GUI tool, can also be used to manage ASM operations.
As part of Oracle 11g R2 new Grid Infrastructure, ASM and Clusterware are integrated and installed together into a new grid infrastructure home. To start the ASMCA tool, enter asmca
at a command prompt from your $GRID_HOME/bin
location.
When you execute asmca
at a command prompt, you are most likely to come...
