Backup and recovery strategies are deployed to ensure that the database can be recovered in case of a media failure. Successful backup and recovery strategies ensure that the Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met within the acceptable business impact. There are various ways to back up and restore, and we will look at them in this section. We will describe each of the backup and recovery strategies, and will emphasize the advantages and disadvantages of each of them.
Export strategy provides a snapshot of the logical structure of the database. It does not accommodate backing up the transactions after the completion of the export and therefore provides a point of time recovery as of the time of the export. It can be performed using the export datapump or with the traditional export utilities. Export strategy exports the specified database objects or the whole database into a dump file.
