Overview of this book

Every Enterprise should have a learning curve in building better integration solutions from inaccuracy. Since Integration becomes the backbone of every corporate IT system, it is important to build the integration solution based on industry proven best practices. Oracle being a leader in enterprise solutions brings industry best practices and open standards as Oracle AIA framework. Oracle AIA Foundation Packs provide an open standard data model, templates and methodologies to build integrations and processes for enterprise applications. This book will guide you through the Oracle AIA fundamentals and development practices.

Oracle Application Integration Architecture (AIA) Foundation Pack 11gR1 focuses on the fundamentals of integration, the AIA approach to integration and various integration components in AIA. This book is developer- friendly as the structure of the book explains each component right from architecture to development.

This book covers Oracle AIA and its approach for better collaboration with integration teams. It covers all the components of the Oracle AIA Foundation Pack.

This book begins with AIA fundamentals, architecture, and components from Enterprise Business Objects (EBO), Enterprise Business Message (EBM), Enterprise Business Services (EBS), Application Business Connector Service (ABCS), and Enterprise Business Flow (EBF). However, this is not enough to build enterprise solution, so this book also covers AIA security, version management, design patterns, error handling, and centralized repository. In turn, this book doesn't leave out testing; it covers Composite Asset Validation System (CAVS). Finally, the last chapter ends with case studies that express real-time scenarios.

Appendix A. Case Study

In the previous chapters, we learned about Oracle Application Integration Architecture Foundation Pack framework, its components, and development approaches. Now, you should have a good understanding of Oracle AIA framework and its components. You might have developed some sample EBS and ABCS using the Oracle JDeveloper. However, it is always better to have knowledge about how to apply this Oracle AIA integration approach to real world use cases. This case study will be helpful in leveraging your confidence for applying Oracle AIA integration approach.

As we know, Oracle AIA Foundation Pack is based on Oracle SOA Suite's tools and technologies. The AIA framework will help you to build integrations based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach and principles. Predominantly, Oracle AIA foundation pack has been adopted to integrate with other Oracle applications or to integrate an Oracle application with other systems such as legacy systems or web portals in order to leverage the SOA approach. In this chapter, we are going to understand how Oracle AIA foundation pack has been used to integrate Oracle JD Edwards application with a web portal.

Sales and distribution

One of the top global pharmaceutical, biologic, and vaccine healthcare companies in North America made a decision to expand their vaccine's supply channel aggressively in northern regions. The business team identified various key sales channels that included effective e-commerce channels and quicker distribution and delivery channels. Therefore, the business and the IT department decided to expand the existing e-commerce portal to include the languages of target regions and effective shipment facilities. Oracle JD Edwards Sales Order Management module used to process the sales orders received through the e-commerce channels.

In addition, the business team also engaged with a major shipment service provider to maintain the warehouse at various locations so that the shipper can quickly deliver the products to the customers. There were various integration requirements that were identified including customer, product, and pricing data synchronization between JD Edwards and the e-commerce portal, order flow synchronization, shipping partner systems integration, and so on. One of the important integrations is the one between JD Edwards and shipment partner systems, so that the orders and shipment notice can be delivered to the shipper seamlessly. For this case study, we will focus on the approach followed to integrate JD Edwards with a third party shipment provider. Due to confidentiality, this case study will only analyze the approach and components used for this integration.
