In the previous chapters, we learned about Oracle Application Integration Architecture Foundation Pack framework, its components, and development approaches. Now, you should have a good understanding of Oracle AIA framework and its components. You might have developed some sample EBS and ABCS using the Oracle JDeveloper. However, it is always better to have knowledge about how to apply this Oracle AIA integration approach to real world use cases. This case study will be helpful in leveraging your confidence for applying Oracle AIA integration approach.
As we know, Oracle AIA Foundation Pack is based on Oracle SOA Suite's tools and technologies. The AIA framework will help you to build integrations based on Service Oriented Architecture (SOA) approach and principles. Predominantly, Oracle AIA foundation pack has been adopted to integrate with other Oracle applications or to integrate an Oracle application with other systems such as legacy systems or web portals in order to leverage the SOA approach. In this chapter, we are going to understand how Oracle AIA foundation pack has been used to integrate Oracle JD Edwards application with a web portal.
One of the top global pharmaceutical, biologic, and vaccine healthcare companies in North America made a decision to expand their vaccine's supply channel aggressively in northern regions. The business team identified various key sales channels that included effective e-commerce channels and quicker distribution and delivery channels. Therefore, the business and the IT department decided to expand the existing e-commerce portal to include the languages of target regions and effective shipment facilities. Oracle JD Edwards Sales Order Management module used to process the sales orders received through the e-commerce channels.
In addition, the business team also engaged with a major shipment service provider to maintain the warehouse at various locations so that the shipper can quickly deliver the products to the customers. There were various integration requirements that were identified including customer, product, and pricing data synchronization between JD Edwards and the e-commerce portal, order flow synchronization, shipping partner systems integration, and so on. One of the important integrations is the one between JD Edwards and shipment partner systems, so that the orders and shipment notice can be delivered to the shipper seamlessly. For this case study, we will focus on the approach followed to integrate JD Edwards with a third party shipment provider. Due to confidentiality, this case study will only analyze the approach and components used for this integration.
