Our approach in this book is to learn Oracle from the ground up. Thus far, we've installed the Oracle database software, created a database, and taken a broad look at its architecture. Now that this is complete, we can begin to look more closely at each of the aspects we've covered. In this chapter, we'll examine the database side of RDBMS more closely by exploring the way in which Oracle stores data. We'll start deep within the datafiles, examine how data is stored, and then widen our look to actually work with tablespaces at the command level.
In this chapter we shall learn how to manage the following operations:
Examining each of Oracle's physical storage structures
Managing tablespaces
Understanding Oracle-Managed Files
