Static data dictionary views are the set of views so named due to their infrequently changing nature. Static data dictionary views are not truly static; rather, they are comparatively slow changing compared to the dynamic data dictionary views. There are three basic types of static data dictionary views, and these are differentiated by their prefixes, USER_
, ALL_
, and DBA_
.
Static data dictionary views prefixed with USER_
are those whose subject pertains to the ownership of the user itself. For example, if we were logging in to the database with our companylink
user and query the USER_TABLES
view, we would see all of the tables owned by our current user companylink
. If we query from USER_INDEXES
, we see a list of indexes owned by the companylink
user. The USER
views, as they are sometimes called, are useful for data dictionary information as it pertains to the current user.
