Many experienced DBAs are most familiar with the manual process of creating a database. Although building a database manually allows the DBA the greatest amount of freedom in configuring a database to exact specifications, it has many steps and requires a fairly advanced knowledge of the Oracle architecture. We will examine the steps involved in a manual creation, but first we'll create a database using a simpler approach—the Database Configuration Assistant (DBCA). The DBCA is Oracle's standard GUI tool for building and configuring Oracle databases.
