Communicating company mission, vision, and values


Once an organization has defined their mission, vision and values (again, let's call them the MVV for short), it's time to share them with the world. Internally, the MVV provides guidance for decisions and inspiration for employees. Externally, the MVV tells customers and shareholders the priorities of the company. Here are some of the ways I've seen organizations reinforce their MVV both internally and externally:

  • Business cards: Many organizations, especially nonprofits, will publish their mission on their business cards for everyone to see. It's a great public relations and fundraising communication piece.

  • Letterhead, notepads, and so on: Another piece related to the business card, including the mission and vision of the organization on common business items. If the mission is short, it can be easily incorporated into envelope design or included on invoices. It's a good way to keep the message out in the public eye.
