The Backbase debugger has functionality that resembles the Firebug plugin of the Mozilla Firefox browser, with the advantage that it will work with all browsers supported by the Backbase framework.

When you are running the Backbase development version (as opposed to the optimized version, which we will talk about later), the debugger is always present in the background. When something goes wrong, such as a JavaScript error occurs, or the XML you are trying to load is invalid, then the debugger will pop up with one bar containing an error message. If you click on this bar, a window will open in which you can search for details.
You can also make the debugger appear on demand, by pressing the Esc key. This can be useful if you want to take a look at the structure of a widget or at the CSS used. You have seen examples of this in Chapter 7 when...
