Types of face-to-face communication opportunities


Not all face-to-face interactions are sewn from the same cloth. One-to-one meetings, group meetings, and conferences are the popular ones, which are explained in detail here:

  • One-to-one informal: These are the face-to-face interactions that happen outside the ambit of a company's governance structure. It is generally an ad hoc meeting called by any of the involved parties. A quick discussion about the roles and responsibilities with the manager and discussing technical topics between peers count towards informal meetings. In this type, you would generally be unprepared and the meeting happens on the fly. But when you are aware that the meeting is going to take place, think about all the possibilities, all the queries that could be raised, all the possible scenarios on why the meeting could be called in the limited amount of time given to you. The idea behind this tip is that you should never be unprepared heading into a meeting.
