There are many social networks that focus on professional networking. One of the more popular ones is LinkedIn. The idea is simple: create a profile with your experience and expertise, and then connect with co-workers and colleagues. LinkedIn also allows you to join groups and interact with like-minded professionals.
The reason I want to mention social networks is because I've found them very useful for staying in touch with people from my previous jobs. It's so easy to say "let's stay in touch" but the reality is we get busy. Sometimes we forget to update contact information and before you know it, we can't find that connection anymore.
