Demo 2 – Creating an environment and exploring the details


In the following sections, we will explore the details of the painting of a flutist. In this second illustration, an image is placed within a fully-realized environment. One of the challenges of painting this image is the different types of textures and details involved in making a convincing image. Painting a gnarled tree, foliage, chain links, as well as the figure, are some of the different challenges in this composition. Yet all the different textures, as you will see, will be painted using a similar approach.

In the following screenshot, we see the block in stage where the concern is about the placement of different elements in the composition. Only a general indication of these is necessary. Four different layers are used to place the elements of the composition onto the canvas. The objects in these layers can be moved and resized until one is satisfied with the overall composition.
