Client discovery and installation methods


System Center Configuration Manager manages a client system by installing a client on it. This topic will introduce some information regarding the planning for client discovery. These are the methods you can use to install the Configuration Manager client agent on a target system:

  • Client push installation: This happens when the site server makes a connection to a potential client and starts the client installation process. Client installation requires a discovery of the system first. This is only required for automatic and manual client pushes using the console. You can set up a client push installation on a site-wide basis, or you can push the client to individual systems and collections. A client push installation has multiple dependencies that you have to configure, and you are also limited to setting up installation properties on a site-wide basis.
