While the AWR is revolutionary enough in its own right, the repository of performance information kept by the AWR provides DBAs with an entirely different set of tools, namely, the Advisory Framework. The Advisory Framework goes beyond the simple collection and presentation of statistics and metrics. It takes those metrics and uses them to give DBAs something all of us need at one time or another, that is, advice. The Advisory Framework can be a powerful tool in finding proactive and predictive solutions for several common performance problems.
Imagine that instead of spending hours interpreting the output of an AWR report, we could generate a report that lists, in order, the problems in our database, and even suggests possible actions to take to resolve them. That's exactly what the Automatic Database Diagnostic Monitor, or ADDM, provides. The ADDM is an intelligent set of algorithms that runs...
