Getting started with Python in Excel

Now it's time to insert some Python code into our workbook by placing Python scripts directly into designated cells, executing the code, and observing the results.

  1. To begin, click on cell B2 in the currently blank hello‑world worksheet of ch_01.xlsx.
  2. Next, navigate to the Formulas tab in the Excel ribbon and select Insert Python, as seen in Figure 1.3. This will allow you to input and run Python code directly within the worksheet, integrating Python's functionality with your Excel environment.

    You will now see both the cell and the formula bar highlighted with a green "PY" square to the left of the cell, indicating that it has been converted to a Python in Excel cell.

  3. Hit Escape to exit this mode and revert to a regular Excel cell.
