Chapter 9. Networking

At this point, we've seen most of the most common tasks that might be presented to an application developer save for one. That is of course, the task of communicating with servers through a network connection. This task is by far the most complicated task we've attempted yet, and doing it well is probably the most complicated thing you can do in with the BlackBerry SDK.

The reward is worth the work however. Many of the top applications available on the BlackBerry AppWorld store are networked applications. Networked applications have the distinct advantage of being able to deliver new content without requiring the user to reinstall the application. Our world is constantly becoming more connected and applications that can help users with that task are in high demand.

There are two main things that we will go over in this chapter about networking: the transport and the message. It's important to understand that these two components are somewhat independent of each other...
