Now that the patterns and practices for the platform team at NewTech are established, the first problem to tackle is the lack of infrastructure standardization used across teams. Currently, while teams utilize containerized microservices, these services are deployed in various ways. Some are using serverless technologies, various forms of virtualization, and one team is even maintaining its own Kubernetes cluster built from scratch. There is no standard for observability either, so if things go wrong in production, it's tough for teams to get help, leading to lengthy outages that occur more often than the company would like.
