Practical C# Projects with .NET
By :
In this final part of the book, we'll delve into using our .NET development powers for fun by recreating the classic Pong game using C# and MonoGame. Pong was invented in 1972 by Allan Alcorn. It was published by Atari and was one of the first video games to reach household awareness by the average consumer.
While Pong's simplicity and timelessness made it a classic, these same qualities will help us as we use Pong as a learning exercise to understand what MonoGame is, how its game loop works, and how to build a functional small game using C#—as well as how game development differs from more traditional programming workflows in .NET.
By the time we're done with the chapter, you'll have a more solid understanding of MonoGame and its Update and Draw loops, a firm foundation for the next two chapters where we build larger projects, and a more personal appreciation for the classic game of Pong.
