Introduction to vRealize Log Insight


When you are using vRealize Operations, you are using what can be described as structured data.

The solution connects to vSphere, or other infrastructure such as storage, and collects metrics and properties on a regular basis. This time-series data is collected at a very consistent cadence, and you are typically collecting values for the same set of metrics and properties each time.

Most system administrators would have been involved in troubleshooting issues where they would have had to dive into logs generated by systems or applications.

Log data is completely different from the data collected by vRealize Operations. It is very unstructured data and can be very verbose. There is usually a lot of log data, and finding the information you need is often like "looking for a needle in a haystack."
