Installing Sourcerer

Sourcerer is one of the most versatile Joomla! extensions. It allows you to add custom code (HTML, JavaScript, or PHP) at almost any point in Joomla!. This facilitates everything from custom database calls with output, to jQuery visual tricks. In this recipe we will take the first step by installing Sourcerer.

Getting ready

Download the free Version of Sourcerer from http://www.nonumber.nl/extensions/sourcerer.

Put the downloaded file on your desktop and follow this brief guide to install it.

How to do it...

If you have the download ready then read on. We will simply install Sourcerer and will do some fancy things in later recipes.

  1. From the Joomla! admin panel navigate to Extensions | Extension Manager. Click on the Browse button and select the file sourcerer-v4.1.x.zip. Now click on upload and install.

  2. To check that Sourcerer is working we will create a custom module and try and use a bit of PHP. Navigate to Extensions | Module Manager and then click on the New button. At...
