Chapter 13. Maintenance and Support

In traditional software development, the rule of thumb is the costs are split a third each between licensing, development, and maintenance. With eZ publish, there is no licensing cost and often clients assume that once their site is up, there will be no more costs, which is rarely the case. Additional costs can arise for many different reasons, which your client should be aware of. Just like a car, an eZ publish solution needs maintenance and servicing over time to ensure it continues to operate well. This chapter outlines the most common areas of maintenance and support.

The following information deals with projects that have a standard installation of eZ Publish with some custom code, e.g. custom templates and one or more extensions.
