Prior to the advent of CSS3, web developers used a laundry list of content manipulation, asset preparation, and asset presentation techniques in order to get their web page layout the way they wanted in every browser. Most of these techniques would be considered "hacks" as they would pretty much be a work around to enable the browser to do something it normally wouldn't. Features such as rounded corners, drop shadows, and transforms were all absent from a web developer's arsenal and the process of getting things the way you want could get mind numbing. Understandably, the excitement level surrounding CSS3 for all web developers is very high as it enables developers to perform more content manipulation techniques then ever before without the need for prior preparation or special browser hacks.
