This chapter has been a robust adventure in the world of JSF. You should be able to understand the theory of how the framework has been put together. We covered the key features of JSF such as an HTML5 friendly markup and a templating engine. JSF is a part of the Java EE platform and is available on many application servers and servlet containers. We learned how the JSF framework relates to the Model-View-Controller design pattern.

You should be able to understand the request and response processing lifecycle and the phase change state model in JSF under the execute and render lifecycle.

Towards the middle chapter, we inspected the JSF basic pages, custom tag libraries, Facelets views, and a simple backing bean. We also observed a composition layout with both the master and client templates.
