On-demand performance testing environments — key challenges and solutions


The idea of on-demand performance testing environment is a compelling one, but it requires managing queries on data security and the environment setup, which could be an accurate representation of production.

To address data security, we need to generate synthetic data/scrub production data to create test data for performance testing. The Test Data Management (TDM) tools, such as Datamaker from CA, help to generate synthetic data based on the database profiles and configuration.

Production-like environments can be created on cloud manually or using tools such as Skytap. In handling this manually, one goes about gathering the required production configuration data. The tools, such as Skytap, do the same by reading the production environment configuration from the customer production data center and recreate the environment on the cloud.
