Site reliability engineering
In every organization, there comes a time to create new roles and/or realign the new roles and the old roles and teams and what their tasks are going forward.
Running services at scale is hard and hence a new way of doing things was needed. Meet Site Reliability Engineering (SRE).
Google has kindly provided a lot of free information on this in terms of (at the time of writing) three books on SRE. Find them at sre.google/books.
In this section, we will focus on the transition into the SRE way of thinking and why it is important to consider it.
The reason why this is covered in this book is to reinforce the necessity to pause and think about your cloud adoption. The Cloud Adoption Framework gives you the insight and the tools to get it done, but only if you have stopped and thought through the consequences of being a cloud-first organization.
