Time for action – treating errors in the estimated time to avoid discarding rows


Do you remember the section named Time for action – Avoiding errors while converting the estimated time from string to integer from Chapter 2, Getting Started with Transformations. In that exercise, you detected the rows with an invalid estimated time, reported the error, and discarded the rows. In this section, you will fix the errors and keep all rows.

  1. Open the transformation you created in that section and save it with a different name.

  2. After the Write to log step, remove the fields estimated and error_desc. Use a Select values step for that purpose.

  3. After that, add an Add constants step. You will find it under the Transform category.

  4. Double-click on the step and add a new field. Under Name type estimated, under Type select Integer, and as Value type 180.

  5. Click on OK.

  6. Finally, create a hop from this step towards the calculator. You will have the following:
