In this chapter, we've taken you on a tour of scalability, analyzing the challenges and issues related to scalability. We explored what scalability and performance is, their differences, and how they are implemented.

We also looked at some scalability options, such as options to scale out databases, caching, load balancing, and performance optimization—key techniques that are used to scale any application. With a special focus on how it's related to Infinispan, and how we can achieve quality attributes such as high availability, scalability, and performance.

In the next chapter, let's get our hands dirty and learn the core aspects of Infinispan, and also learn the Infinispan API basic concepts.
