Flexfields are generic data items that allow you to be able to store additional information. There are key flexfields (KFF) and Descriptive Flexfield (DFF). Key flexfields are collections of data that represent business entities. An example would be inventory items, that is, if you can imagine that an item is defined by four different sub fields. In this example, the key flexfield may be defined as the description code, the size, the color, and the manufacturer. So if we had a black Sony 42 inch monitor it may well be represented as LED-42-BLK-SONY. A Descriptive Flexfield (DFF) is a way of being able to add additional data items to an entity. So if a screen does not have all of the items that the business requires then DFFs allow users to be able to store additional information relating to an entity.
