Summary

This chapter covered the different cloud deployment models and the technologies through which they can be realized. The cloud heralds a new computing era, with potential application and cost savings to businesses of any size. Your SharePoint deployment roadmap may have just gotten more complicated, and you may be thinking "the sooner my organization embraces the inevitable, the quicker we'll realize the benefits and stay ahead of the curve". After all, the only constant in technology is change.

But you can counter this thought and ease your mind by also acknowledging that the more things change, the more they stay the same. Consider the following points:

  • Business will always want to do more with less, be leaner and more agile (this seems to be the mantra of the new economy).

  • Are costs really decreasing or are you really just outsourcing work to a third party?

  • Does SharePoint cloud computing really add value to your business?

  • Is this change improvement or change for the sake of change...
