Shapes and types of shapes
The different shapes that are available for flowcharts will help when you are modeling your diagram. This is because you can assign different meanings to the different shapes. This will make the modeling you do with your flowchart more powerful and expressive.
Each shape will have an ID and a type. If you do not apply a type, then the rectangle shape will be used by default. IDs are like unique names for each node and are important as you use them whenever you refer to a particular node. The text in the node does not have to be the same as the ID. Later in this chapter, you will learn how to set separate text inside a node that is different from the ID. The following example shows how an ID without a shape definition will result in the rectangle shape:
