Using the Database Copy wizard


SQL Developer provides the Database Copy wizard for quickly copying data from one schema to another. This mechanism is useful when the results do not need to be replicable or when the table contains large objects types, such as BLOB or CLOB. This wizard does not produce a script file, even in the background, which is run to perform the task. Instead, it copies the data from one table to another, whether within the same schema or between schemas, thus handling the LOB column copy too. All you need is to be able to connect to both schemas.

Comparing the database copy alternatives

The Database Copy wizard, available from the Tools menu, offers a choice of approaches when copying the data:

  • Create Objects—creates new objects in the destination schema for the objects you have in the originating schema. If the objects already exist, those actions will fail. There are no DROP commands.

  • Truncate Objects —truncates all of the existing tables in the destination schema...
