One of the formats in which training content developed in UPK can be delivered is as Standalone Topic Files (file type .odtpc
). Trainees will require a special player—the Topic Player—in order to be able to use these files.
Note
For more information on the Standalone Topic format, refer to Chapter 6, Publishing Content.
This Topic Player is available to all UPK users (who have a valid end user license!) but must be installed separately, by each trainee. This section explains how to install this Topic Player.
To install the Topic Player, carry out the following steps:
1. Locate the installer for the Topic Player. This is named
odweb.exe
, and can be found either in the same directory as the Standalone Topic Files that you have created (see Chapter 6, Publishing Content), or in your UPK installation directory, underUser Productivity Kit\{version}\LibraryDocuments\Content\IOne\Library\Neutral\Publishing Common\Data\Parts
. Run this installer, and the Choose Setup Language dialog box is displayed, as shown in the following screenshot:2. Select your required installation language, and then click on OK. (Note that this selection influences the language in which the labels and buttons in the Topic Player are displayed. It does not affect the language in which the Topics are played.) The following screen is displayed:
4. If necessary, use the Change button to change the location into which the UPK executables will be installed. Normally, the default location is acceptable.
6. Click on Install. The following screen is displayed:
Note
You may see additional messages informing you that the Microsoft Visual C++ 2008 Redistributable is being installed, if it is not installed already.
When the installation is complete, the following confirmation screen is displayed:
7. Click on Finish.
That's it. All done. Now, if you double-click on a Standalone Topic File (file type .odtpc
) then the Topic Player will automatically be launched. Again, refer to Chapter 6, Publishing Content, for full details.
