We covered this earlier in Chapter 1, Before the Interview – Preparing and Practicing, but it needs reinforcing now we are discussing the score sheets.
It may sound obvious, but do not make illegal notes about the candidate on the score sheet. Even something innocent, like a comment about the candidate's red hair to help you remember him or her, should be avoided.
A note about references or qualifications should be fine, however. The key thing is to think about the candidates in terms of their fit for the role; avoid any mention of their appearance and so on. When trying to remember them, your notes will ensure that you are focusing on the things that will ultimately help you to reach a good decision.
At the end of the interview, you should have an overall score for the candidate. We will cover how those scores are adjudicated in the next chapter.
