Configuring vShield Endpoint using an antivirus

Configuring vShield Endpoint requires two main components: the third-party endpoint product and a custom installation of VMware Tools. For our examples, we'll be using Sophos Anti-Virus for VMware vShield and Sophos Enterprise Console for management of antivirus settings.

vShield Endpoint provides the structure or plumbing for third-party endpoint products to utilize. Sophos, McAfee, Trend Micro, and Symantec are just a few of the vendors that support vShield Endpoint. The vShield Endpoint component provides the mechanism to allow the third-party antivirus software to gain access to the VM through VMware Tools.

Tip

This is not intended to be a step-by-step installation of the Sophos product. It is given out only as a reference to the relevant portions as they relate to vShield Endpoint.

Getting started

The Sophos software must be registered and a trial version downloaded from https://www.sophos.com/en-us/products/virtualization-security/free-trial...
