Installing an ESXi host certificate


Updating the certificate on an ESXi host is not currently supported by SSL Certificate Automation Tool. The certificate and private key files must be manually copied to the corresponding ESXi host for deployment.

Getting started

In order to proceed, we require access to the directory that holds the certificate and private key that were generated as a result of the certificate request completed earlier. In our example, the certificates are located in the C:\Certificates\SSLTool\requests\<service name> folder.

Ensure that the command prompt account has administrative access to the vCenter and local servers.

Ensure that the root username and password for the host are available if needed.

How to do it…

Perform the following steps:

  1. Enable SSH on the specified host (in our example, esx5502.training.lab).

  2. Put the host in maintenance mode.
