Network troubleshooting is an extensive field. It tests not only the engineer's understanding of the fundamental protocol working but also tests his knowledge of the network under his supervision. A good understanding of the preceding information coupled with the skill and experience of the network engineer helps resolve network issues more effectively. Troubleshooting is effective if the engineer follows a systematic approach and correlating various observations before starting to make changes on the network. Lastly, a simple and modular network can go a long way in making troubleshooting easier and efficient.
In this chapter, we covered some of the commands that can be used to identify and diagnose problems on an IP network and provided a systematic approach that can be used by network engineers to troubleshoot issues on the enterprise IP network.
