A campus network consists of multiple switches and routers that are interconnected to provide ports for connecting the devices to the network. We will discuss the various technologies that correspond to layer 2 and layer 3 of the OSI model, which are used on the campus network. Ethernet is the de facto standard for layer 2 connectivity for devices, and hence we will focus on the Ethernet technologies during our discussions. We will discuss the wireless technologies used within the campus network in Chapter 5, Understanding and Configuring Wireless Access Technologies.
