Chapter 8. Managing the Database

The single area causing most complaints with users of Oracle SOA Suite 11g is the issue of database growth. The importance of purging completed instances was initially not stressed in the previous 11g release, and this has led to numerous production stability issues for many customers. The purge scripts were adequate at best, and it took numerous patch sets to get them right. Fortunately, Oracle SOA Suite 12c has come with drastic improvements in the purging process, alleviating the number one cause of headaches for the production administrator.

The latter part of this chapter discusses less frequently used functionality surrounding partitions and version history, albeit the functionality that every SOA Suite administrator should be familiar with. Thus, we will cover the following areas related to database management in this chapter:

  • Managing the dehydration store

  • Managing metadata repository partitions

  • Purging the metadata version history
