Variables are a vital part of programming because that’s the way data is stored. Imagine you are trying to keep track of how much cash you have in your pocket, and you plan to do some grocery shopping. You decide you’d like to grab a cup of tea after shopping, so you’ll need to budget your money wisely to make sure you have enough to enjoy some tea. You can most likely do some quick calculations in your head to get a rough estimate of how much you can spend on groceries that day. To double-check your math, you decide to use the calculator app on your phone, and you realize you should have enough to buy the book that you wanted. Let’s try this out on a calculator app with a starting total of $75 as an example. You estimated that the cost of groceries will be $40 and that the tea will be $5, which has been calculated in the Windows Calculator app, as shown here:
