Let’s visualize what the world will look like 10, 15, or 20 years from today. According to the United Nations, 2 decades from now, we will have around 9.7 billion humans and over 25 billion internet-connected devices. That’s 2.5 connected devices per human.
Today, what comes to our mind when we talk about devices are phones, laptops, smartwatches, and digital assistants, such as Amazon Alexa or Google home devices that are constantly connected to the internet. All phones today work in the same way and look the same. Screen touch is the primary input interface and the display is the primary output interface. With artificial intelligence (AI) becoming mainstream, digital devices’ interfaces are bound to change. AI will create more devices and more form factors, enable device-to-device communication, and introduce new input and output interfaces for interaction with machines.
