When you move from a handful of systems to an entire estate, the rules change. Investigating a single computer allows an examiner to slow down, manually inspect artifacts, and build a careful timeline of activity. In an enterprise environment, investigators may be responsible for hundreds or even thousands of endpoints across servers, workstations, and cloud systems. The challenge shifts from deep inspection of a single system to rapidly identifying suspicious activity across many systems.
Single-system triage is deliberate and often manual. Incident response must be fast, repeatable, and scalable across a network. When responding to an intrusion, investigators are not just asking what happened on a single machine. The real questions become: Where else did the adversary go? What systems did they access? What evidence can we collect right now before it disappears?
