Summary

In this chapter, we began to look at the foundational aspects of what network architects should and need to be aware of when designing and implementing robust and efficient network infrastructures.

The physical infrastructure and routing and switching concepts presented are fundamental to a network architect’s career as they form the backbone of data communication in modern networks. A network architect’s ability to design efficient, secure, and scalable networks depends on a strong grasp of these principles. It will enable them (and to adjust when necessary) to build robust and high-performing network infrastructures for organizations of all sizes.

While this book is not intended to go in-depth on switching and routing granular design and practices, a network architect must be fully aware of those design practices that best suit the overall solution outcome.
