We discussed in this chapter about the basic concepts of wireless networks and the various terminologies used in the RF domain that will help the network designer and operator communicate effectively with the RF engineers who generally do the RF site surveys for WLAN deployments.
We also discussed the different Wi-Fi standards and discussed the considerations for using 802.11 ac and 802.11n networks in dual bands for better performance. The chapter finally discussed the different modes of deployment of the APs in the enterprise. Even though the centralized mode of deployment requires additional network element in the form of a WLC, there are multiple advantages of using the centralized mode of deployment that justify the cost of the additional WLCs.
The next chapter will focus on the different WAN technologies deployed in an enterprise network.
