Video production pointers

When you begin to produce videos for your course, the first thing to understand is that there are two main approaches to recording them:

Screen recording: This method is most useful to teach software programs or export PowerPoint presentations; these videos allow a student to follow along as you demonstrate a piece of software using your computer or tablet. To enhance the quality of these videos, many instructors adopt a picture-in-picture approach that features them talking while the main portion of the screen displays the software being demonstrated. They are typically simpler to record and often easier to edit.
Live action: These videos require an individual to stand in front of a camera and speak to the camera. You can also add on-screen graphics to complement the spoken words of the instructor and to visually illustrate concepts.
