Chapter 8. Promoting Your Course

In the 1989 movie Field of Dreams, Ray Kinsella—the main character played by Kevin Costner—is told by a mysterious voice that "If you build it, he will come." The premise is that if he builds a baseball field in his corn field, then his late father, with whom he had a troubled relationship, will appear. After a mystical adventure, he builds the field, and not only does his father materialize, but other deceased baseball players arrive as well.

Unfortunately, as wonderful a movie as Field of Dreams is, you most likely won't have that same experience with your edX course. Just because you build it doesn't mean students will materialize out of thin air like the baseball players in that movie. The solution is to promote your course using traditional and nontraditional marketing tactics.
